We had the pleasure to meet OKE a young talented artist from Luxembourg for a short interview, so if you are curious to discover this artist enjoy the lecture below !

WHEN DID YOU DISCOVER YOUR LOVE FOR MUSIC?

The love for music was discovered in Lagos Nigeria. I used to sing in the church choir with my grandmother’s assistance I managed to believe in myself moving to luxembourg at the age of 11. I reconnected with music in the school choir and in the high school choir. It was what led me to music that I do today.

WHAT WAS YOUR FIRST PERFORMANCE AND HOW DID YOU FEEL?

My first performance was in front of 3000 people in Rust (Germany). It was for the song contest in Europapark Rust and I was representing Luxembourg. I felt so great because the audience gave me a standing ovation at the end of my performance. At that point I was really emotional because the whole show was on sat.1 which even made me feel special. I won that year with my song “freedom”. I made history by being the first Luxembourgish artist to win the song contest. That really felt great and I was so proud to represent my country because it’s part of me. The song “freedom” was released through a german label “sevenus”.

DID YOU EXPERIENCE ANY HARDSHIP AS AN ARTIST?

Every artist had to go through hardship. Mine was I was hoping people accept me for who I am. I was also scared of failure. There was a moment where my music was declined by the radio for whatsoever but I really worked twice as hard to convince them that my music is for the radio. Thank God, I am getting all the push I need. Shoutout to all the radios in Luxembourg!

Concerning discrimination I was playing a concert where someone came up to and said I was never discriminated against in Luxembourg. The individual told me I am a shitty person and I won’t make it if I keep spreading false narrative about Luxembourg. But the truth is I was discriminated against for the skin of my color, my features and so much more. Basically anything that made me different from others.

I will never let that get to me. My purpose is bigger than that. That is my focus, my music that’s how I can connect to people and tell them my story.

I never let that get to me. My purpose is bigger than that. That is my focus, my music that’s how I can connect to people and tell them my story.

WHAT MOTIVATES YOU TO PURSUE YOUR DREAM?

I came from nothing. I have an opportunity that a lot of people in my hometown Lagos (Nigeria) don’t have. It is my duty to work hard so I can give back to the community.

WHAT CAN WE EXPECT UP NEXT (PROJECTS/MUSIC)?

More music, going international and also huge surprises this year.
